A trans-Pacific partnership for drug development.
Topica is a privately held, specialty pharmaceutical company, focused on licensing, developing, and commercializing potent topical prescription products to treat the needs of patients with nail and skin conditions. The company is uniquely positioned to in-license and develop compounds from the Pacific Rim and market those agents exclusively in the Americas and Europe.
Introducing luliconazole.
Taking advantage of its global network, Topica has in-licensed its flagship product, luliconazole, a topical agent that is already on the Rx market in Japan. Topica has exclusive rights to develop and distribute luliconazole in its designated markets (Europe and North and South America.)
Luliconazole brings a powerful feature to one of the principal challenges in the treatment of fungal infections of the nail. Uniquely, the active molecule has been shown to cross the formidable barrier of the nail, eliminating the need for novel excipients or vehicles to deliver the drug to the nail bed. In addition to the molecule’s unique and specific pharmacokinetic profile, it is one of the most potent compounds in the azole group for the treatment of fungal infections. Luliconazole is currently in Phase II trials for tinea pedis and will begin clinical testing for onychomycosis in early 2010. It is already approved for tinea infections in Japan, where it has been used to treat approximately 4 million patients safely and effectively. For more information on luliconazole, click here.
